Anam Cara comes from the Celtic tradition and translates to Soul Friend. My perspective of spiritual companioning aligns with this philosophy. My own expanding understanding of how I desire to offer my gifts out into the world and my definition of this work is also evolving. At this time, my “short definition” of what Spiritual Direction or Companioning (the terminology I prefer) has gone through its own stages of development. Here is my current statement: As a spiritual companion, I offer a safe, welcoming space to explore the big questions that arise on our journey home to our True Selves. Our sessions are a dedicated time to pay attention to and nurture your own ability to SEE the Sacred, the Divine, the Universal already present IN and Around us each and every moment. I believe we are ALL first and foremost spiritual beings full of love and goodness. Our passage into our physical human form causes us to “forget” WHO we ARE and our journey here and now is one of returning Home. The space offered in spiritual companionship recognizes this time as a sacred trust and an honor, to walk alongside and be invited to witness another’s journey is holy ground.
